Time is coming near for the Fall concert season to begin. So mark your calendars for the first rehearsal and Open House on Monday, August 18 at 7:00pm. Rehearsals have now moved to the Capital Hill Presbyterian Church at 201 Fourth Street SE. Gay Day at King’s Dominion
The DCDD Marching Band and DCDD Swing! have been invited to perform at King’s Dominion Gay Day on September 13. So come on down for an evening of games, rides, and music. For more info, go to the calendar of the DCDD website at www.dcdd.org for links to the King’s Dominion Gay Day.
Orientation for New Members
DCDD will host an orientation for new members joining the organization. This event is to allow the Artistic Directors, Board Members, and Section Leaders to meet and greet people beginning with the band for the first time. Rehearsal and performance schedule; policies and procedures; band camp; and many other topics will be discussed. Current and former members are welcome to attend as well. Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado
This loving adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado is under the musical direction of Scott Barker (DC's Different Drummers). Jill Strachan is providing stage direction and choreography is by Alvin Mayes (both of the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, D.C. Cast members hail from Bread & Roses Feminist Singers, DC's Different Drummers, Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington, and the community-at-large. The orchestra comprises of members from DCDD and The Pan-American Symphony Orchestra. Performances are: July 31, August 1-2, and August 7-9, 2003, 7:30 PM, and held at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street SE, corner of G and 7th St. SE. DCDD Swing Manager
DCDD Swing! is looking for a new manager to oversee the band. This person would serve as the contact for clients requesting gigs and is responsible for price quotes. Other duties include general set-up coordination for each performance; organizing directions and instructions for band members; secure parking and storage (if needed); and other general managerial duties. DCDD Color/Winter Guard
With the dramatic expansion of the color guard corps this year, the possibilities of expanding this group into a new performance ensemble have begun. An organizational meeting for all interested in participating is planned for Wednesday, July 23, at 7:30pm. Topics to discuss include rehearsal venues and performance opportunities; rehearsal/performance schedules; uniforms; dues; equipment; finding a guard manager; and fundraising.
