DCDD's Capitol Pride Symphonic Band to Perform in Concord, NH

The William H. Gile Community Concert Series has invited the Capitol Pride Symphonic Band (CPSB) to perform in Concord, New Hampshire in the Capitol Center for the Arts. The Capitol Pride Symphonic Band is a part of DC's Different Drummers (DCDD), a Washington area gay community band. The Band will perform at the Capitol Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 7:00 pm.

DCDD President, Stan Goff is excited by this opportunity, "This invitation is a testimony to both our musical abilities and the generous folks with the Gile Community Concert Series to invite an openly gay band to perform in Concord." Concord is the home of the Episcopal Church's first openly Gay Bishop, and the New Hampshire Legislature recently voted down a proposed gay marriage ban.

K. Scott Barker, DCDD artistic director, says, "Music brings people together. Music is a bridge that can help overcome the gaps that sometimes develop because of human difference. We're thrilled to have the opportunity to bring our music to people of New Hampshire, especially in light of the state's leadership in protecting basic human rights."

Barker describes the program as "music that recognizes the struggles and celebrates the triumphs of the human spirit." The program includes a delightful swing arrangement of Richard Rogers' Shall We Dance, and an arrangement of George Gershwin's popular symphonic works, including excerpts of Rhapsody in Blue and American in Paris.

The Capitol Pride Symphonic Band will also feature the works of two contemporary band composers: Frank Ticheli's An American Elegy and James L. Hosay's We Hold These Truths, which evokes the music of the civil rights movement.

The band will also give individual members a chance to shine with solos in Puccini's Nessun Dorma, In a Gentle Rain, and a saucy Pavanne by Morton Gould. The concert will close with the glorious Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.

This is a free concert! Ticket information can be found on the Capitol Center for the Arts Website - www.ccanh.com, click on "Find a Show/Event" and then select the William H. Gile Community Concert Series.
