From the President

Greetings friends of DC's Different Drummers.
Wow! what a Spring we have had. The Capitol Pride Syphonic Band's June concert rocked Capitol Hill. The DCDD Marching Band brought everyone to their feet at the Pride Parade and DC Swing! set a new standard for the Arts Stage at the Pride Festival.
With the Marching Band closing out this part of the season at the Pallisades Parade on the 4th there will be a lot of band members ready for a the Summer Break.
Don't let that fool you however. There is a terrific Fall season in the works.
If you have been waiting for the perfect time to join us or know someone who you know would love to be part of a band again, now is your chance. DCDD's Capitol Pride Symphonic Band will be having it's first rehearsal and Open House on August 21, so now's a great time to get that old horn out of the closet, get it all adjusted and start working on those fundamentals because there will be more fun in the Fall season with DCDD!
Great music and Band Camp, yes I said BAND CAMP! are some of the best reasons for being a member of DCDD. So, please email membership@dcdd.org for more information and get practicing because August is just around the corner.
Musically yours!
Stan

July 4th - DCDD at Palisades
|
|
Once again this year the DCDD Marching Band will be a featured performer in the July 4th Palisades Parade.
The Parade steps off at 11:00 am at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Whitehave Parkway, NW.
DC Gay icon Frank Kameny (narrated our Lincoln Portrait in 2005) was influential in getting this invitation many years ago. It has been wonderful outreach to the greater DC community. We've enlisted a few new members as a result of our performance in the parade.
Following the parade there is a neighborhood picnic which is a great way to celebrate July 4th!

Celebrate Summer with DC's Different Drummers on Friday, July 14 at Titan Bar, 1337 14th Street, NW (above Dakota Cowgirls). Our party starts at 8:30 pm!
It's a great way to socialize and raise a bit of money for DCDD.

Fabulous June
|
|
June was a fun-filled and busy month for DCDD.
On June 3, the Capitol Pride Symphonic Band performed a stellar concert at the Reformation Lutheran Church. It was one night only and we had an audience of almost 200.
A week later, the DCDD Marching Band took to the streets under the leadership of Drum Majors CJ Liotta and Ed Wilson.

The crowds lining the parade route during Capital Pride went wild as we played We are Family, Turn the Beat Around and All that Jazz. Scott Barker's choreography for All that Jazz was a big hit with the audience.
At the Pride Festival on June 11, DC Swing! took the Arts Stage by storm and had folks dancing in the street.
Shortly after, the sound of drums filled the air as the DCDD Marching Band made its entrance to perform for the crowd at the Arts Stage.
In addition to the marching tunes, DCDD also wow-ed the audience with The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Our trio of flags put on a great show with different routines for all four songs!
We had over 50 people sign up at the DCDD Booth during pride - musicians, flag corps and twirlers, and our much loved audience!
