From the President

Greetings friends of DCDD,
Yes it's almost time for all those things that go bump in the night to come out to play. You of course are thinking of the Capitol Pride Symphonic Band, right?
If so, you are a true fan of the CPSB. For while others will be thinking of goblins and high heel races you will be yearning for the sounds of beautiful Horns and lithe woodwinds as they take you on a musical journey through the Shire and Moria and end up with the kind of razmataz that would make Mel Blanc get up and dance.
As you probably remember from the last newsletter we have concluded another terrific Band Camp. All the work and fun went towards making this Fall's concert the musical extravaganza it surely will become.
Yes, there are stories and no, I'm not saying a word. Let's just say "What happens at Band Camp stays at Band Camp" except for the terrific sense of accomplishment and wonderful community formed by two days in the wilds of Elmer, New Jersey.
So, please get your tickets for the upcoming Looney Tunes and Fairy Tales concert and be ready for the musical journey of the year!
Musically yours!
Stan
Stan Goff
President,

Gay Games - LGBA - 2006
|
Steve Messina - (Bassoon, Saxophone, Piano, Percussion) attended Gay Games VII in Chicago in July of this year. Below is his overview of the event.
It was a thrill to be in the musical component of the Gay Games in Chicago this past summer.
This is my second time participating in the Gay Games, and my fifth time playing with the combined band of the LGBA.
When I started attending the annual gay band conferences four years ago I had no idea how much fun they would be. I'm now looking forward to St. Louis in the fall of 2007.
Two moments from this year's Gay Games stand out for me: I had stayed in the stands during the opening ceremonies and watched the marching band and flags run onto the field. From the moment they first appeared, the crowd roared with excitment. I was so proud of everyone. The cheers from the stands were deafening.
The other stand-out for me was hanging out with our fellow bandmates while we were waiting to rehearse for our big concert. I have seen many of these people every year since 2002 and have become really close to some of them. It was a sweet reunion. Then we did what we love most. We got out our instuments and played.
I'm so glad the opportunity to play with the national group exists for me - for all of us!

Looney Tunes and Fairy Tales
|
One Week Away!!
A whimsical Halloween Concert, full of magic, mayhem, wizards, hobbits, and something Wicked.
Featured in the concert is the Symphony No. 1, Lord of the Rings by Johan de Meij. The Symphony was written in the mid-1980's and calls to mind some of the characters - Gandalf, Galadriel and sinister Gollum, and the places - Lothlorien, the Shire, and the dismal Mines of Moria.
Other works on the program include The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a Percussion feature on Copland's Hoedown, and a medley of "Looney Tunes" that will make you long for Saturday morning cartoons.
Come in costume - but come and enjoy this magical concert.
The concert will be at 8:00 p.m., October 27 & 28 at the Reformation Lutheran Church 212 East Capitol Street, NE.
Ticket prices are $15.00 in advance, $20.00 at the door. Senior Citizen and Student tickets are available at the door for $10.00
Tickets are also available at Lambda Rising Bookstore at 1625 Connecticut Avenue, NW
