From the President
|
|
Greetings one and all!
To start off - the DCDD Board has appointed Laura Harris (Clarinet Section) to fill a vacancy on the DCDD Board. Not only was she willing to serve, Laura has dived in head first and keeps swimming! Laura will be chairing our Fund Raising efforts for the year, and she'll be asking us all for support, ideas, and help.
In addition to Laura's work - I must commend the efforts of other Board members. This week we've had rehearsal, Board meeting, and Quilt Panels Meeting. I know the Trumpets had a sectional. Stan and I met with the band's attorney. Wayne has gone shopping, filed our taxes and is working on DC Swing! promotion. Jeff Sturman is working with Marc on web stuff (see below under Other News), and taking on Publicity.
So much is going on with DCDD! And rehearsals continue. We are eight weeks from our Song and Dance Concert on May 11-12.
Speaking of rehearsals - many thanks to CPSB members who were very flexible at the March 12 rehearsal. The sectionals were productive - I heard great comments for both Mark and Beth. Scott is mending and should be back with us on Monday night.
A reminder that we have a day-long rehearsal on Saturday, April 21, at Reformation Church. We'll be rehearsing in our performance space so it is important that everyone is there so we know how we'll fit and how we'll sound.
There are folks everywhere who love Carmina Burana this will be an easy concert for everyone to promote.
DC Swing! has a performance on Saturday, March 24, for SLDN. They also have another gig at Rob Heim's restaurant Leopold's on May 16, that will be open to everyone!
And Marching Band is right around the corner!
And one more piece of news - former DCDD President Jana Fry and former DCDD Asst. Director Pam Wolf, are forming the Aloha Pride Marching Band. Ho'omaika'i!
Cheers!
David

DCDD as Community
|
|
DCDD represents the entire spectrum of the GLBT community. Troughout our history, and into the present, we have had members from each of these
categories; moreover, our membership includes people who do not fall
into these categories.
Part of our mission is not just to reach out to
the GLBT community, but to the greater Metro DC community; as a result,
we are one of the few GLBT groups that comprise women and men,
individuals from different races and faiths, and people from their
twenties to their sixties, all united for the goals of making music, and
educating about the GLBT experience.
- Keith Glaeske, PhD.

DCDD Members play in Cleveland
|
|
As if February wasn't bad enough here in DC - four members of DCDD travelled to Cleveland on the icy shores of Lake Erie to perform in a concert sponsored by the Cleveland Band.
Steve Messina, David McBee, Steve McCoy, and Zach Parker joined members of eight different LGBA Bands for a stirring performance of works by Grainger, Bernstein, Ticheli, Sousa and others.
It was an opportunity to see old friends, make some new friends and make some music!

Pianist for DC Swing!
|
|
DC Swing! has gained a few new members. Sarah has joined us in the Trombone section and Caroline is playing with the Trumpets.
We're still needing a keyboard player. We have a nice electric keyboard purchased with monies from the Lucille Fund. Now we just need to get someone to play it.
