DCDD Symphonic Band

The DCDD symphonic band, serving the glbt community, will perform pieces ranging from Saint-Saens to Dr. Suess, Copland and Elgar to Rodgers and Hammerstein. Concerts on November 22nd and 23rd at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Dupont Circle (1830 Connecticut Ave. NW). Tickets are a $12 donation in advance and $15 donation at the door. D.C.'s Different Drummers Symphonic Band is comprised of members and friends of the Washington area's LGBT community, and has been serving that community through music for 22 years. The Symphonic Band has more than 50 musicians, gives two full concert performances every year and plays for special events like Reel Affirmations Film Festival, the MCC annual holiday concert and the GLBT Healing Arts Festival.

Symphonic Band Open House December 2nd at 7 PM

If you ever wanted to test-drive our Symphonic Band but were not sure if you had enough time, this is your chance. Come rehearse with us on December 2nd and 9th and perform with us on December 13th and 14th (8 PM). DC's Different Drummers Symphonic Band joins MCC-DC for a joint Holiday Concert. AIDS Memorial Quilt Commission
|
|
DCDD's Symphonic Band and the Lesbian and Gay Chorus of Washington have jointly commissioned an original work for symphonic band and SATB chorus to musically represent the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The work is slated to be premiered for World AIDS Day in December 2003. The composer selected is Robert Maggio, whose music has been performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, American Dance Festival, Detroit Chamber Winds, and the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, among others.

2002 Banquet December 7th

The Band Banquet will be held on December 7th, 2002 at 12pm at the Georgetown University Conference Center on 3800 Reservoir Road, NW; Washington, DC 20057. Please mark your calendars!!
The Band Banquet is a place to enjoy each other company and reflect on the acheivements and accomplishments for the year. As well as honor those who contribute so greatly to DCDD. There will be entertainment, a great meal and Award Presentation.
This is a great opportunity to meet other band members in a social setting. Feel free to bring your partner, lover, friend or come by yourself. Everyone of you makes a great contribution by being a part of the band and your presence is vital to making this Banquet a success.
You will be receiving an invitation October 7th, please fill it out and give it to either Jules Gilliam or Karla Schultz. If you have any questions or would like to assist with the Banquet, please let Jules or Karla know.
