DC Swing! Open House

DC Swing is holding an open house rehearsal on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at 7 PM. If
you play trumpet, trombone, saxophone or rhythm and have even thought
that you might want to play in swing band, please email us for directions to the rehearsal. We are in need of trumpet
and sax players as well as backups in all sections. Come on out and
have some FUN!

DCDD and MCC-DC Holiday Concert

Please join the DCDD Symphonic Band on Friday and Saturday (December 13 & 14) at 7 :30 PM for a Holiday Concert! The concert is held at MCC-DC (5th and Ridge Streets, NW). Please arrive early because as these concerts tend to be very well attended. Admission is free! Happy Holidays.

AIDS Memorial Quilt Commission
|
|
DCDD's Symphonic Band and the Lesbian and Gay Chorus of Washington have jointly commissioned an original work for symphonic band and SATB chorus to musically represent the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The work is slated to be premiered for World AIDS Day in December 2003. The composer selected is Robert Maggio, whose music has been performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, American Dance Festival, Detroit Chamber Winds, and the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, among others. Congratulations to the award recipients at the 22nd Annual DCDD
Banquet! For his service to DCDD, Blake Velde was honored with the
President's Award. For her superior trumpet-shining skills (and her improved
musicianship), Nancy Jones is this year's Tommy Menehan Award winner.
Jamie Roberson, Drum Major and instigator of Band Camp, joins the ranks
of Steve Collins, Laura Whitbeck, and Judy Ames as this year's
recipient of the Michael Rutherford Spirit Award. And last but not least,
Shana Glennon and Stan Willis were voted DCDD Rookies of the Year.
Also, Blanca Barrera of Takoma Park won the survey drawing for a spaghetti dinner for eight from our Fall cancert survey drawing. Congratulations!

D.C.'s Different Drummers seeks musicians - D.C.'s Different Drummers
symphonic band is seeking brass and woodwind instrumentalists to
perform
with rapidly growing ensemble. Concerts are in April. Rehearsals are every
Monday, 7 p.m. at MCC-DC, 474 Ridge Street, NW, near Mt. Vernon Sq. Metro.
Our first rehearsal and new member open house is on January 6, 2003. No
